European Parliament’s delegation meets Deputy Chairman Senate

ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the European Parliament led by its chairperson Jean Lambert called on Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala on Monday.

According to a statement released from the Senate secretariat, Senator Saleem Mandviwala acknowledged the services of the European Union and the European Parliament for the strengthening of democracy in Pakistan.

The delegation included Ms. Jean Lambert, Chair of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia, Mr. Jean-Francois Cautain, EU Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. George Mayer, Mr. Wajid Khan and Ms. Javaria Rizvi Kabani, Counsellor for Human Rights and Political Affairs.

While discussing challenges that democracy in Pakistan faces, Deputy Chairman Senate, Senator Saleem Mandviwala said that the political system is slowly taking roots in Pakistan and in a period of ten years, if this continues, there will be political stability in the country, reads the statement.

He asserted that now, people have begun to look towards the parliament for resolution of their problems. The confidence of the people of Pakistan in Parliament is now being restored, headed.

European Parliament’s South Asia delegation calls on foreign minister

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi had received a delegation of the European Parliament’s South Asia delegation, led by its chairperson Jean Lambert at the Foreign Office on Monday.

The foreign minister expressed satisfaction at the positive growth in Pakistan-EU relations as well as increase in Parliamentary exchanges.

He stressed upon the need for enhancing trade and economic cooperation, in particular to take full benefit of GSP Plus Scheme and building linkages through cultural and educational exchanges and people to people contacts.
