Zardari meets Fazl to devise strategy against PTI govt

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Monday met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to devise a strategy the challenge the incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

The former president has expedited his political activities after lashing at the government for its incompetence and inability to govern the country. He had also called on opposition parties to bring forward a resolution against the government.

Zardari reportedly discussed a range a issues with Maulana Rehman at the latter’s residence particularly the political situation and efforts to make the opposition more active.Well-informed sources revealed that they also discussed to bring a resolution against the government in the parliament.

Addressing media after the meeting, Zardari said that he struggled for the sake of democracy since the last decade, but unfortunately democratic forces appear  to be weakening in the country.

“We struggled together for sake of democracy since last ten years, but democratic forces appear to be weakening. It doesn’t seem the nation can be governed anymore. We are just fulfilling our democratic responsibilities,” he said.

However, he hinted that the PPP does not necessary intend to bring down the incumbent government, but its way of governance was rather undemocratic. He reiterated that the current administration was incompetent on running the country’s affairs.

He further said that other like-minded parties would be consulted on the issue, and they have always made efforts against undemocratic forces,

He said that Maulana Rehman will communicate with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on their behalf. The JUI-F chief announced to convene a multi-party conference of parliamentary parties.

Opposition parties should bring resolution against govt

Yesterday, the PPP co-chairman had said that the government was incompetent and cannot run the country and asked political parties to bring a resolution against

“PTI government’s incompetence would not remain hidden for very long so all parties must come together to pass a resolution that it is unable to run the affairs of the country in a befitting manner,” said Zardari.

He said that he believes in the supremacy of the parliament and hand handed over all the powers to the house during his presidency.

Replying to a question, Zardari said he was never a beneficiary of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), which was annulled by the former chief justice of the apex court and all cases against him were reinstated.

Instead, he said Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Nawaz Sharif may have benefited from the NRO, and termed allegations against him publicity stunt of his rivals.

Regarding the economic crises in the country, he said former president Pervez Musharraf also faced the same crises but situation turned better as he received foreign aid after allying Pakistan with the US after the 9/11 tragedy.

Zardari further said foreign aid was suspended when the PPP came to power. He said they had introduced futuristic policies but Nawaz Sharif discarded them when he came into power.
