ISLAMABAD: Voting for by-polls on the Punjab Assembly seat (PP-168) in Lahore got underway on Thursday morning.
The polling began at 8:00am and will continue till 5:00pm without any break. As per data of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the total number of registered voters in the constituency is 1,26,862 including 73701 male voters and 53161 female voters.
The ECP has established a total of 83 polling stations in the constituency. Special security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident.
The PP-168 Lahore seat was vacated by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Khawaja Saad Rafique after being elected to the National Assembly.
Prominent among the candidates in the run for the seat are PML-N’s Rana Khalid Qadri and PTI’s Malik Asad Ali Khokhar. The Pakistan Peoples Party has fielded no candidate to back the PML-N contestant.
A tough contest is expected between the candidates of the ruling PTI and opposition PML-N.
