GUJRAT: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on late Wednesday night killed three suspected terrorists affiliated with proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in an encounter during an anti-terror operation at University Road here, ARY News reported.
Acting on an intelligence tip-off, the CTD conducted an operation at University Road near Nala Muradpur in Gujrat. Sensing the arrival of the law enforcement personnel, the miscreants opened fire on them which triggered an exchange of fire between terrorists and CTD personnel.
Three terrorists were killed in retaliatory firing of the CTD personnel, while three others managed to flee from the spot, sources at CTD said.
A large cache of explosive material and weapons were also recovered from the terrorists, the sources added.
Separately, two policemen martyred and three others were injured in a gun battle with armed men during a raid in Katcha area of Rojhan tehsil in Rajanpur district in southern Punjab.
According to Punjab police, the raid was carried out on an intelligence tip-off about presence of proclaimed offenders in the area.
The miscreants armed with sophisticated weapons opened fire on police personnel, which claimed lives of two policemen including Station House Officer Khalid Gohar while injuring three others.
The identities of the injured cops could not be established immediately.
