KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday extended special policing powers granted to Rangers for 90 days within Karachi, ARY News reported.
According to the provincial Home Department, the Sindh government has approved the summary extending the powers granted to the paramilitary force under Section 4(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 within Karachi division for 90 days.
The Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) will now be able to exercise their special powers from April 6 to July 4 this year.
The Home Department has also apprised the secretary of the Ministry of Interior about the extension of powers.

The paramilitary force has been playing its effective role in curbing heinous crimes in the metropolis.
The government had initiated the Rangers led targeted operation in Karachi in September, 2013, to curb terrorism, kidnapping for ransom, extortion, targeted killings and other heinous crimes in the port city after a wave of criminal incidents in the metropolis.
On March 31, Sindh Rangers had collared 11 suspects during raids in different areas of Karachi.
The captured suspects included target killers, robbers and drug peddlers, said the Sindh Rangers spokesperson.
The Rangers spokesman had said weapons, narcotics and looted valuables were recovered from their possession.
