KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday protesting in the Sindh Assembly against the recent disappearance of three aides on former president and Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Speaker on the floor of the House, the chief minister took strong exception to their disappearance and said that they have not received any further information on their whereabouts, but it does not appear to be a case of kidnapping for ransom.
“This does seem to be a case of kidnapping for ransom,” he said cautioning the federal government agencies to present them in the court if they are taken into custody and remove all doubts and suspicions.
He referred to Article 10 on the constitution of Pakistan which deals with safeguards for arrest and detention and stimulates that any person arrested or taken into custody must be presented before a magistrate within twenty-four hours.
Condemning the disappearance of Ghulam Qadir Marri, the chief minister said he was present in Gari Khuda Bukhsh on April 4 on the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, but was abducted from Tando Adam when he was returning on April 7.
He expressed concern saying that Marri is suffering from cancer and diabetes, and had recently received treatment from London with assistance from Zardari. He said that a petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court and he has instructed police to investigate the matter.
He said the abductors were reportedly carrying walkie-talkies as well, and even took away his medicines which is unusual, and said that geo-fencing data has been ordered for further information.
“No one follows the constitution more than the PPP,” he said pleading the constitution should also be followed in the matter as well.
