ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML) and a strong loyalist of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Sheikh Rasheed on Wednesday said that the prime minister was badly trapped in the infamous Panamgate case.

Speaking to media after the hearing of disqualification references in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he said the Panamgate was an open-and-shut case and that all eyes were on the Supreme Court now.

Rasheed admitted he was an in favour of an open court for PM Nawaz; however, he had to accept a decision of the majority yesterday.

Setting aside any impression of a rift between Imran Khan and Sheikh Rasheed after the PTI chairman withdrew the sit-in and protest call on Tuesday, the AML chief said, he was and would remain an ally of Khan in his fight against corruption in the country.

The PTI was observing ‘Thanksgiving Day’ in the federal capital today (Wednesday) instead of a previously planned protest and sit-in.

Imran Khan took the unexpected pick when the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Tuesday began hearing a case into the ‘Panama Papers’ leaks and offered to form a commission to investigate revelations that Sharif’s children held offshore bank accounts.

The court had also asked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family to submit an answer within two days.
