SC seeks threatening calls record in Parveen Rehman murder case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday has asked additional attorney general (AGP) to present report regarding threatening call to Parveen Rehman murder case, ARY News reported.

The Orangi Pilot Project Director was gunned down in a targeted attack near the Banaras Flyover in March 2013. She was a vocal opponent of the land and water mafia in Karachi.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed heard the aforementioned case in Islamabad.

The bench asked from the additional attorney general about the probe in compliance with the apex court’s orders of constituting new JIT in the case.

“New JIT has been formed, while investigation was underway,” the AGP replied to the honourable bench.

The court was apprised that record of threatening calls to Parveen Rehman and the Orangi Pilot Project members has been received today’s morning.

To this, the SC directed AGP to present the report before the court in next hearing and adjourned the proceedings of the case for a month.

In last hearing of the case on February 6, the AAG informed the court that the new JIT, comprising of five members, would work under Director General Federal Investigation Agency (DG FIA) Mazhar-ul-Haq. “Threats received by project members are being traced.”

He further relayed to the bench that the FIA report was received over a phone call but reports of other institutions is awaited.
