LAHORE: Several cities of Punjab descended into darkness due to a power breakdown in the province, ARY News reported on Sunday.
The issue of power shortage intensified following non-supply of oil to power generation company which led to waste of 3000-megawatt of electricity from the system.
The cities in which power supply was affected included Nankana Sahib, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Jhang, Kasur, Phoolnagar, Jhelum and Chakwal.
Power breakdowns also took place in many parts of Lahore were Garhi Shaho, Dharam Pura, Ichhra, Johar Town, Muslim Town and Samanabad.
According to Water and Power Ministry, there has been an increase in the demand for electricity. The power generation was 11,000 to 12,000 megawatt whereas the demand is at 16,000 megawatt.
A spokesman from the ministry said that the prevailing situation can last for several days due to technical issues.
