KARACHI: The Pakistan State Oil (PSO) on Tuesday resumed supply of fuel to the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after a brief halt over non-payment of the outstanding dues.

The fuel supply resumed following successful talks between the PSO and the airline, according to a PIA spokesperson.

Subsequently, the PIA resumed its flight operation as a number of flights departed from Karachi as per their schedule.

Earlier, the PSO suspended fuel supply to the national flag carrier over its failure to ensure payment of the dues, which affected the airline’s flight operation, causing difficulties to passengers.

The PIA is required to make payment of Rs340 million to the PSO daily as the former owed a total debt of about Rs17 billion to the latter.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) a day earlier approved a financial support package worth over Rs17 billion for the loss-making national entity.

The decision came during a meeting of the ECC with Finance Minister Asad Umar in the chair

The PIA is facing financial crunch and despite several bailout packages, the airlines has been unable to stand on its feet.
