PM Abbasi inaugurates northbound section of Lyari Expressway

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday inaugurated Northbound carriageway of Lyari Expressway in Karachi.

The northbound section of the expressway comprised of 20 bridges and four interchanges, which has been completed at a staggering cost of 10 billion rupees, the state-run radio reported.

The inaugural of northbound section also marked the culmination of the project, whose completion had been delayed for more than 15 years.

Addressing an inaugural ceremony, the premier said the progress of country is proportional to the progress of Karachi, adding, his adviser Miftah Ismail has been tasked to oversee the ongoing developmental project work in the city.

He said the ruling PML-N did not make hollow slogans for well-being of the society but rather undertook countrywide development schemes.

“All flagship projects of CPEC including construction of ports and development schemes are underway,” he said.

The premier said all development projects will be completed in Karachi and elsewhere in Sindh province.

He said 25 billion rupees have been provided by the federal government for completion of projects in Karachi to resolve problems being faced by the people.

He further said CPEC projects and Motorways will bring progress and prosperity in the country as well as region and enhanced connectivity will augment economic activities.

Earlier, the premier had arrived in Karachi on his day-long visit to inaugurate northbound section of the Lyari Expressway and review security situation of the metropolis.

PM Abbasi will also hold a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Director General (DG) Rangers, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AD Khawaja and other offcials to discuss Karachi’s law and order situation.

The dignitaries will brief the premier over ongoing court proceedings with regard to Naqeebullah extrajudicial killing and arrest of suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar, besides Green Line Bus service and other developmental projects, sources informed.

On sideline of his visit, the premier is also expected to review the work on various developmental projects in the city including Sewerage S3 project and K-IV water project.

The premier will leave for Gwadar after concluding his day-long visit in Karachi.
