Pakistan Medical Association terms Nishwa’s death ‘murder’, criticises hospital closure

KARACHI: Terming nine-month-old Nishwa’s demise a ‘murder’, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Secretary General-central Dr Qaiser Sajjad here on Thursday said that closure of medical facility over individual’s negligence was an inappropriate step.

Addressing a press conference at PMA House, Dr Qaiser Sajjad said, “Nishwa was killed by wrong injecting at Darul Sehat Hospital and a young girl, Asmat was killed at a government hospital in Korangi.”

Dr Qaiser Sajjad demanded of the government to bring the cases to their logical end so that these types of heinous crimes could be averted in future.

He said, “It is the responsibility of hospitals to recruit skilled and experienced staff.” Dr Qaiser Sajjad said that in the field of medical, negligence could not be tolerated.

Dr Qaiser Sajjad further said, “We should put the system on the right track instead of shutting hospital.” He asked that would the government seal Sindh Assembly over mistake of any MPA?

The government should punish the employ who found guilty after the investigations instead of shutting institutions, he said and added, “People’s confidence in doctors is reducing due to their negligence. The doctors will have to review their behavior.”

He admitted that the government hospitals were not providing appropriate treatment to patients and added that private hospitals were looting people.

Dr Qaiser Sajjad condoled with the families of the victims and demanded of the government to launched a fair and transparent investigations into the cases.

At this occasion, Dr Ghafoor Shoro, Dr Farhan Esa, Dr Ismail Memon and others were also present.
