PESHAWAR:Pakistan has commenced fencing its border with Afghanistan, Chief of Army Staff General Qammar Javed Bajwa said on Saturday.
According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the border areas in Bajaur and Mohmand agencies are prioritized as high threat zones. Furthermore, additional technical surveillance means are also being deployed along the border besides regular air surveillance.
Gen. Bajwa, during a visit to areas in Mohmand and Orakzai Agency on Saturday, said that army shall employ all resources required for defence of the beloved motherland and safety and security of peace loving Pakistani tribes.
COAS said that efforts being made to evolve a bilateral border security mechanism with Afghan authorities.
“A better managed, secure and peaceful border is in mutual interest of both brotherly countries who have given phenomenal sacrifices in war against terrorism,” he said.
He said that mainstreaming FATA is in the best national interest, while development works are also being implemented to bring enduring peace and stability in the area.
The army chief was given a detailed briefing about border security arrangements, cross border terrorist threat and recent terrorist attacks from across on the Pakistani posts.
He also interacted with troops at Suran and Kalaya and hailed their high morale, operational preparedness and effective response to recent cross border terrorists attacks.
He hailed the successful intelligence-based operation leading to the killing of five terrorists including high value Duran, and the martyrdom of Major Mudassar and two soldiers during the operation.
General Bajwa said that he is proud of the great sacrifices made by security forces and people of Pakistan in the effort to clean our country from the miscreants.
