RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army has  launched a new counter-terror operation named ‘Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad’ (رَدُّالفَسَاد) across the country.

The operation aims at indiscriminately eliminating residual and latent threat of terrorism, consolidating gains of operations made thus far and further ensuring security of the borders.

“Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Navy, Civil Armed Forces (CAF) and other security / Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) will continue to actively participate / intimately support the efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country,” said a press release issued by ISPR.

The ISPR statement said that this new effort entails conduct of Broad Spectrum Security and Counter Terrorism operations by Rangers in Punjab, continuation of ongoing operations across the country and focus on more effective border security management.

“Country wide de-weaponisation and explosive control are additional cardinals of the effort. Pursuance of National Action Plan will be the hallmark of this operation,” reads the statement.

WAVE OF TERROR

A series of bombings last week, in which more than 100 people were killed, has shattered a nascent sense that the worst of the country’s militant violence might be in the past.

The deadliest of last week’s attacks was on the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan city of Sindh, which claimed more than 80 lives.
