Pak, Afghan forces agree on truce at Torkham border

According to security sources, after military and diplomatic contacts, the border authorities of both the sides agreed on a ceasefire following which the Afghan officials waved white flags on their side.

Meanwhile, the construction work on Torkham gate has also been started after the announcement of a ceasefire.

Pakistan has maintained that the unprovoked firing from the Afghan border forces has disrupted border management efforts by the Pakistan Army.

“Strengthening of management and facilitation of the movement of people and vehicles across the border is an important part of counter-terrorism effort and also for checking drug trafficking and other illegal activities,” said the Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Wednesday.

During the border clashes that erupted between Pakistan and Afghan security officials, Major Jawad Ali Changezi, who was critically injured by Afghan firing, also succumbed to his injuries in Peshawar on Tuesday.

However, Afghan officials also claimed that the clashes killed an Afghan border guard and wounded five others.
