ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formed a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to inquire into murder of Parween Rahman in Karachi, ARY News reported on Friday.

The new JIT formed  on the directives of the federal government to investigate 2013 murder of the Orangi Pilot Project Director Parween Rahman.

Director General Federal Investigation Agency (DG FIA) Mazhar-ul-Haq Kakakhel will head the JIT, which also included the officers of the Rangers and the intelligence agencies as members.

The new JIT will investigate the case in the light of all available record of the case, sources said.

The meeting of the probe will be held in Karachi next month, sources added.

Parween Rahman, the Director of the Orangi Pilot Project, was gunned down in a targeted attack near the Banaras Flyover in Karachi in March 2013. She was a vocal opponent of the land and water mafia in the port city.

The Supreme Court in a recent hearing of the case asked the additional attorney general (AGP) to present report regarding threatening calls made to members of the Orangi Project.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed heard the case in Islamabad.

The court was apprised that record of threatening calls to Parveen Rehman and the Orangi Pilot Project members has been received.

To this, the SC directed AGP to present the report before the court in next hearing and adjourned the proceedings of the case for a month.
