ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will present two government officials in an accountability court in a fake bank accounts case today.

Project Director Hassan Ali Memon and KMC Director Land Najam-uz-Zaman, who were arrested from Karachi, have already been shifted to Islamabad by the bureau to ensure their presence in the court for physical remand.

Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir will hear the case.

Both the held suspects are facing charges of illegally allotting plots in Clifton area. Hassan Memon has also been accused of depositing commission earned on the illegally sold plots into fake bank accounts.

It is noteworthy that a banking court had last week transferred the fake bank accounts case against former president Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and others to Rawalpindi on a request by NAB.

The court also cancelled interim bail of the 19 suspects in the case. Following the ruling, NAB issued notices to Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, directing them to appear before its Rawalpindi office on March 20. The court directed the authorities to return surety amount to the suspects.

The former president and his sister have challenged the banking court’s decision of transfer of money laundering case against them to Rawalpindi in Sindh High Court.

A petition filed by his counsel Farooq H. Naek in the SHC termed the banking court’s order as unlawful and pleaded to the high court to declare the decision as void.

Zardari’s sister Faryal Talpur has also challenged the banking court’s decision in Sindh High Court.

They have also submitted their affidavits for interim bail in the case.

Zardari’s counsel Farooque Naek has said that only the banking court’s decision has been challenged in the court today, the bail petition will be filed later.
