LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Friday nominated two judges for an election appellate tribunal set up to hear and decide election disputes with regard to the upcoming by-election in NA-120, ARY News reported.

According to the notification, the tribunal comprises of Justice Mamoon Rasheed Sheikh and Justice Rasheed Sheikh will hear the matters involving the by-election from August 21.

It said the tribunal will begin hearing on the petitions against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers of the candidates from August 21 till Aug 24.

The by-election in NA-120, vacated after the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court, will be held on Sept 17.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) candidate Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry has challenged the acceptance of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s nomination papers for NA-120 in the election tribunal which is expected to hear his petition on Aug 21.

The Supreme Court judgment dated July 28 disqualified Nawaz Sharif from the office of prime minister for not disclosing his un-drawn salary from a UAE firm. Following the judgment, ECP issued a notification de-notifying Sharif as member of the assembly from Lahore’s NA-120.
