SARGODHA: Soliciting support from the masses for her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz on Saturday deplored her father’s ouster, stating, Sharif was disqualified for merely possessing a foreign work-permit (Iqama).
Addressing a public gathering in Kot Momin here, Maryam said her father was punished for undertaking countrywide development projects and became a victim of political mudslinging.
“Iqama is a visa,” she thundered in response to a question which she posed towards the public.
Denouncing the JIT Probe, Maryam said the probe was launched into Panama Papers Leaks which resulted in emergence of an Iqama (a work permit to immigrants in the Gulf countries).
Taking aim at her opponents, the former premier’s daughter said PTI Secretary General Jahangir Tareen was also disqualified by the court but was not nominated in a single reference. “Has NAB [National Accountability Bureau] filed a reference against him?” she asked.
“Accountability of three generations was conducted against Sharif family,” she lamented while slamming the opponents for ‘hiding behind one institution or another’ to attack Sharif.
Moreover, she reiterated that PML-N government ended terrorism in Pakistan and resolved energy crisis.
It was the first major public rally of ruling party after GT Road Rally following Sharif’s ouster by Supreme Court’s landmark July 28 verdict last year.
