KARACHI: Police on Friday brought an end to a sixteen day kidnapping drama staged by the family of an eight-month-old girl in Karachi’s Napier Road area by recovering the minor from her alleged guardian’s house, ARY News reported.

The minor girl named Faiza’s mother had claimed on September 12 that the girl was abducted by a veiled woman who snatched the minor from her hands outside her third-floor apartment within the precincts of Napier police station.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on the very day but police who doubted the family’s claim today recovered the child from a house in Yousuf Goth area.

The girl was recovered from one Imran Abdul Qadir, a relative of girl’s family, who claimed to have taken custody of girl as a guardian. The suspect added that the girl’s mother called him to her apartment on September 12 and willingly gave him the girl’s custody for “better upbringing”.

Addressing a press conference regarding the incident of kidnappings in Karachi, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Javed Alam told media that the suspect maintained that the girl’s mother had not taken into confidence other members of her family about the incident so had to portray it as kidnapping.

The police officer added that rumours are doing rounds about alleged kidnappings of children from outside schools but so far no case has been reported.

The minor’s mother had told police on September 12 that a veiled woman first greeted her then almost immediately snatched her daughter from her hand and ran away. She added that she cried for help but the woman managed to escape with her daughter.
