PM Imran meets IMF chief to discuss bailout package

BEIJING: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Director Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the second Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, China.

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance, Hafeez Shaikh, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were in attendance during the all important meeting between the PM and IMF chief.

Pakistan is expecting $6billion bailout package from the IMF.

It may be noted that back in the month of February, the IMF chief had acknowledged the steps taken so far by the Pakistani government for stabilising the economy. She said the IMF will remain engaged in supporting Pakistan in sustaining its economic recovery.

Earlier in the day, PM Imran Khan held a meeting with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of World Bank Kristalina Georgieva.

The meeting discussed Pakistan’s economic condition, while Prime Minister Imran Khan briefed CEO World Bank about reforms being taken by the Pakistani government to uplift country’s economy.

Georgieva and PM Khan discussed expected financial assistance from the bank. Pakistan is expecting financial program upto $8billion.

The prime minister was flanked by his Advisor on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and his Advisor on Trade Abdul Razaq Dawood during the meeting.
