ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday adjourned deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s bail plea hearing on medical grounds until Feb 12, ARY News reported.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani also subpoenaed the Punjab Home Department.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo’s medical report was presented before the court. His counsel Khawaja Haris informed the court that four medical reports of his client had been submitted.

However, the National Accountabiliy Bureau (NAB) counsel argued that Sharif’s plea was not worthy of being heard.

The court further inquired on whose order was the medical board constituted and why.

Sharif’s counsel pleaded that since his incarcerated client was suffering from cardiovascular and kidney diseases, he should be released on bail for medical treatment.

Security at the IHC was on high alert whereas PML-N leaders Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Daniyal Aziz, Saira Afzal and others were also present at the court room at the time of hearing.

On January 22, Sharif was brought to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) from Kot Lakhpat jail for a medical examination amid tight security.

A three-member medical board comprising doctors from the PIC examined the health of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo. Upon completion of the medical checkup, he was shifted back to the prison where he is serving seven-year term awarded to him in the Al-Azizia corruption reference by an accountability court.
