LAHORE: First successful transplant of liver was conducted at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) on Saturday.
Punjab Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid expressed contentment over the first successful operation of the newly-established institution. She told that the liver donor and the patient – both are in good state.
Dr. Faisal Dar was the surgeon who conducted the operation, she said.
Dr. Yaseem dubbed the development as a promising news for Pakistani public, adding that the patients, seeking liver transplant, will not have to spend millions in foreign hospitals as PKLI will serve them now.

Moreover, the liver transplant of children will also start in June at PKLI, Minister Rashid had informed the Supreme Court in January.
It may be recalled that the Pakistan Liver and Kidney Research Institute has been in the limelight for irregularities and misappropriation of funds. The Supreme Court had also taken a suo moto notice in this regard.
