The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had been severely criticized for taking down the list of assets of Pakistani parliamentarians from its website. The ECP now issued details of the assets of Pakistani politicians.
According to the list, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif does not own any property overseas. Nawaz Sharif’s possesses wealth amounting to Rs. 2 billion while his son Hussain Nawaz had transferred an amount of rupees twenty-crore and seventy lac rupees from overseas to his father.
Meanwhile, PTI chairman Imran Khan is worth four crore and fifty-four lac rupees as per the list.
The subject of offshore companies and foreign investments came to light after the revelations made about PM Nawaz’s children in the Panama papers controversy. Ever since then, opposition parties spurred on by the PTI and its chief Imran Khan have called for the Prime Minister to resign and offer himself for independent inquiry.
The government is deliberating on forming a judicial commission to probe the PM based on the findings of the Panama leaks.
