PESHAWAR: At least 14 people were injured on Saturday morning as the compressed national gas (CNG) cylinder of a Suzuki pick-up exploded at a fuel station on Charsadda Road.

According to rescue sources, the blast occurred at time of fuel refilling, adding, all the injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for medical treatment.

The sources said the vehicle was carrying a locally manufactured CNG cylinder which failed to sustain the immense gas pressure at time of refilling and eventually exploded.

The identification of the injured could not be established.

Gas leakage blasts have recently witnessed a sharp rise across the country as transporters have been compromising the metal quality of cylinders against partially high cost of standard cylinders.

The government had also launched a drive to examine CNG cylinders in public transport vehicles to prevent such incidents.
