Like other parts of the world, Earth Hour is being observed across Pakistan where major cities are witnessing symbolic blackouts to raise awareness against global warming.
Earth Hour is celebrated every year across the world during which unnecessary lights and electric appliances are turned off for one hour between 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
The event is aimed at increasing awareness about how excessive and unneeded electricity usage drives the demand for more electricity, the production of which contributes significantly to environmental pollution.
Greenhouse gases emitted by the powerhouses accumulate in our atmosphere and disturb the natural weather patterns, resulting in the abnormal severity of weathers with each passing year.
Outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, candles were lit up, and all non-essential lights were turned off.
Earth Hour is being commemorated all over the world including Pakistan to show support for strategies that will help solve the problem of global warming. let's join a million across the world by switching off the lights b/w 8:30PM and 9:30PM in recognition of #EarthHour. pic.twitter.com/1VRmej6TFC

A special ceremony to mark the Earth Hour was held at the Sindh Assembly in Karachi with support from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the organisation which leads the Earth Hour activities around the world.
Lights inside and outside Sindh Assembly and those in several buildings of Karachi were turned off to renew the pledge to save the planet as it struggles to breathe in an atmosphere full of Carbon Dioxide.
Germany’s ambassador to Pakistan, Martin Kobler also joined in celebrating the Earth by turning off the lights at his residence and the German Embassy.
