KARACHI: With an aim to increase awareness of environmental challenges and the growing impact of climate change, lights will be turned off across the globe, including in Pakistan, to mark the annual Earth Hour event today.
All non-essential lights will be turned off around the world from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, descending the planet in darkness.
The Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) launched the initiative in 2007, calling for action to ward off the impact of climate change, protect a healthy green environment and conserve energy.
In the previous year, a record 187 countries are said to have taken part in the event.
In Pakistan, the lights at the Parliament House and other landmarks will be switched off tonight to show the commitment of people towards this noble cause.
Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Khan Sanjrani in his message on this occasion said through these small steps we can demonstrate our resolve to work towards conservation of environment.
