Cyclone Vayu: Emergency declared in Sindh’s coastal districts

KARACHI: Local administrations of Sindh’s coastal districts have declared emergency in view of the likely impact of Cyclone Vayu barreling in Arabian Sea, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The local administration has declared emergency in Thatta district on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Usman Tanvir, a district official said in a statement.

ADC Thatta Arif Kalhwar said that the meteorological department has advised about precautionary measures in view of the impact of the cyclonic activity.

The weather department has forecast dust storms and heavy rainfall in the coastal districts.

The administrations have declared emergency in Thatta, Badin and Tharparkar districts, the official said.

The leaves of concerned officials have also been cancelled due to the weather situation.

The district official also advised fishermen not to venture in the sea due to the rough weather.

Tropical Cyclone Vayu presently barreling in Arabian Sea at 550 kilometers distance in southeast of Karachi, the met office said.

Under the influence of Cyclone Vayu, widespread dust or thunder-showers with isolated heavy falls are expected in southeast Thatta, Badin and Tharparker districts of Sindh.

Scattered/isolated Dust-thundershowers may occur in rest of Sindh during the period, weather forecast said.

The met office has also issued heat wave alert for Karachi for next three days predicting maximum temperature in the port city to 42 degree Celsius.

Due to the highest ratio of the humidity in the air the ‘feels like’ temperature could shoot to 47-50°C, forecast warned.
