LAHORE: Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Sunday said manning and construction of the railway crossings are responsibilities of the provincial governments, ARY News reported.
“At least 80 people have died in railway crossing accidents across the country during the last three years,” he disclosed while addressing a news conference in Lahore.
The railways minister said his ministry has sent numerous letters to all provincial governments to play their role in manning the level crossings but only Punjab provided necessary funds for this purpose.

There are 2,470 unmanned railway level crossings across the country which needs to be manned to avoid accidents, he said, out of these 1,195 level crossings are in Punjab, 133 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 504 in Sindh and 86 in Balochistan.
This should be noted that two accidents have taken place at unmanned level crossings in the last 30 days.
