Commissioner Karachi removed after ‘differences’ with powerful minister

According to sources, the commissioner had difference with some officials including a minister that ended up in his removal from the position.

Ejaz Ahmed Khan has been appointed new commissioner of the city.

It is learnt that the provincial government had released Rs 1.5 billion for roads carpeting and the minister reportedly wanted to utilize the amount personally.

The commissioner refused to obey directions of the minister, leading to rifts between the duo.

It may be noted here that the commissioner had presided over a meeting yesterday wherein he had threatened that supermart Imtiaz would be sealed if the shop management failed clean the silt it earlier dumped in the Lyari River in Gulshan-e-Iqbal to make space for illegal parking.

He had said that Imtiaz Superstore must remove the mud at its own cost and asked for a daily report on the issue.

Shah was appointed commissioner Karachi on January 6, 2016, replacing Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui who was praised for taking several initiatives for removing encroachments in various areas across the city.
