COAS reaffirms resolve to uproot terrorism from country

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday paid a tribute to the policemen who laid down their lives to foil a terror attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a tweet said: “COAS hails great sacrifice of policemen [who] embraced shahadat at Karachi today while fighting against terrorists.”

The military’s media wing quoted the army chief as saying: “Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Police and other LEAs responded with professional excellence. We stay determined to root out terrorism and militancy from our motherland.”

At least two policemen were killed when unidentified gunmen stormed the Chinese consulate in Karachi on Friday morning. Three assailants wearing suicide jackets tried to enter the consulate but were intercepted by security guards at a checkpoint, according to police.

An exchange of fire resulted in the killing of all the assailants, while two policemen also embraced martyrdom in the gun battle.
