ISPR spokesperson Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa announced via Twitter that the committee acknowledged that Pakistan has turned tide of terrorism and assured the COAS of the US support and cooperation in eradicating terrorism and extremism.
On the occasion, General Raheel Sharif emphasized that terrorism is a global threat and warrants coordinated global response.
Meanwhile, the army chief met Armed Services Committee of the US Senate, Chairman Senate John McCain, Senator Jack Reed and other senior members received General Raheel Sharif upon arrival at Capitol Hill.
During the meeting, Senator McCain appreciated efforts, sacrifices and steadfastness of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, specially the COAS’ leadership in fighting terrorist networks on both sides of Pak-Afghan border.
Appreciating longstanding Pak-US defense cooperation, he emphasized need to further reinforce this partnership in view of emerging developments.
With clear regional security perspective, Gen Sharif highlighted need for stepped up Pak-Afghan border management and sustained cooperation to deal with emerging threats.
