KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday announced to have approved the construction of a flyover at Sunset Boulevard in the upscale Defence Housing Authority.

The chief minister on the weekend visited the area to identify the alternate traffic route so that work could be started on the schemes. He marked the alternative route for traffic himself with Google Maps, to divert the traffic from Submarine roundabout and Gizri.

Chairman Planning and Development Muhammad Waseem informed CM Sindh that the flyover has been approved at a cost of Rs650 million which will be started in the upcoming development package for Karachi.

The chief minister also inspected the under-construction underpass at Submarine roundabout where he was briefed by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro about the progress of the work.

The minister said that the quality of work has been maintained and the scheme was taking time in completion due to the heavy traffic volume throughout the day.

CM Sindh said that the quality of work being carried out by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was not good, despite which he has released all funds allocated for their development schemes but would urge them to use the funds sagaciously.

He also visited on-going different roads schemes right from Metropole to Port Qasim, and said that all roads constructed so far and the flyover over at Manzil Pump and underpass at Drigh Road have been inspected from experts of NED University.

“I am fully satisfied with the quality of work, but I am not satisfied with the pace of work,” he said and went on saying that the purpose of his visit was to push the contractors and concerned engineers to speed up the work.

He also announced to launch the Phase-II of the Karachi Package at the coast of Rs12 billion at the earliest.

CM Sindh also expressed concern over the growing incidents of attacks on policemen, but said that they have identified the gangs involved in the target killing and would bust them soon.

The chief minister said that Karachi is the most beautiful city which has faded away when focus was diverted towards elimination of terrorists, extortionists and target killers.

“The government gave special attention to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the city just after crushing the terrorists,” he said and added now that the government is now focusing on the stability of peace in the city.

Earlier, CM Sindh started his visit on the weekend to inspect the under-construction roads and underpass. He started from Metropole where work is yet to be started.

He also directed to expedite work on Malir section of Shahrah-e-Faisal where construction of the road is going on since long and is causing serious problems for the smooth flow of traffic.

He also expressed his displeasure at the slow at the work at Manzil pump on the footpaths being constructed along the road leading to Thatta, and directed the Secretary Works to complete it within the next ten days.

He also seemed displeased about the construction of wide squarely spread roundabout at the turning of Port Qasim, and didn’t receive a satisfactory from the engineers who stated that it was due to the movement of heavy vehicles. He directed the engineers to receive advice from the traffic engineering bureau.

He also inspected under-construction stormwater drain along the road at Star Gate and directed Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro to get it done as soon as possible.
