LONDON: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday sought the nation’s opinion on restoration of taxes on pre-paid mobile phone cards to collect funds for Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams.
Addressing a fundraising ceremony in London, CJP Saqib Nisar proposed the re-imposition of taxes on cell phone cards to construct water reservoirs in the country. He assured the nation that the dams fund was public property and no one will be allowed to embezzle the money.
The CJP lashed out former rulers over avoiding the water issue and termed it their criminal negligence.
He said the dams’ funds initiative had become a movement for humanity and revealed that even Indian Sikhs had contributed $50,000 in dams fund from Canada.
