CJP Jamali directs to block fake social media account

ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday said that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali does not operate any account on social media.

He said that the CJP has directed the concerned authorities to block a fake Facebook account associated with him, and clarified that he does not use the internet or social media.

The chief justice has also instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block the account and take action against those who set up the account under relevant laws.

Earlier, fake social media accounts have been set up for various personalities including Chief of Army Staff, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan and the founder of the Mutahida Quami Movement.

The parliament has passed Cyber Crime Act 2016 to counter cyber crime such as cyber stalking, fake and stolen identities on social media, but the law has been mired in controversy.
