Several areas including Federal B. Area no. 21, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi, Jamshed Road, Liaqatabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan e Iqbal and Gizri have no electricity since last night.
The spokesperson of the K-Electric had earlier stated that power supply to the megapolis will be restored within half an hour, yet it is now more than eight hours but the supply could not be restored.
After the power breakdown, the water supply was also disrupted across the city as 200 million of gallons water could not be supplied in Karachi.
Sources said the breakdown occurred as a technical fault in transmission line resulted in tripping of 15 grid stations across city.
A similar breakdown had resulted in a blackout in majority of areas in Karachi on Saturday night.
On last Tuesday, a 220 KV main transmission line tripped, which caused the tripping of the power production units at Bin Qasim Power Plant.

The cascading effect of the tripping of the transmission line plunged the city into darkness. The power utility earlier claimed that the restoration work would take a couple of hours but later in another statement it said the outage prolonged due to National Grid tripping adding that the teams were working to ‘normalise the situation’. The fault in the main transmission line triggered a domino effect as power supply to several cities of Sindh and Balochistan disrupted. According to earlier reports, the breakdown occurred due to a technical fault in transmission line resulting in outage in several areas of the city.
