PTI government presents 100-day performance report

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government on Thursday presented its 100-day performance report in a ceremony titled “Bunyaad Naye Pakistan Ki”  in Islamabad’s Jinnah Convention Center, ARY News reported.

The ceremony attended by PTI and its coalition parties’ lawmakers and ministers saw Finance Minister Asad Umar, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and PM Imran Khan apprising the nation over their government’s performance against an ambitious 100-day plan unveiled by the party before elections.

Shehzad Arbab vowed to strengthen local governments and added that laying foundation stones of progress is far better than political point scoring.

He apprised the audience that an asset recovery unit was established that detected properties worth 11 billion dollars abroad and notices were issued to thousands of persons who are not tax filers.

Shehzad added that the government is also focusing on brining reforms in FBR as part of improving the tax machinery.

Will create 10mn jobs in five years: Asad Umar

Finance Minister Asad Umar started his speech by paying homage to PM Imran Khan over his 22-year struggle.

The finance minister maintained that as the “opening batsman” of Imran Khan’s team, it is his responsibility to bring meaningful reforms and he is hopeful that he will achieve his target.

He said the external deficit decreased to half in three months due the their policies. Talking about International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package, the minister said, “We will do what is best for our people” and won’t deceive them about IMF’s terms when availing bailout.

He reiterated the the government’s resole to create 10 million jobs in its five-year tenure.

‘Pakistan wants friendly ties with regional countries’

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, during his speech said that the PTI always wanted a proactive foreign policy for Pakistan and he has taken steps to achieve that goal.

He maintained that Pakistan wanted friendly ties with all the regional countries, including India and his government took revolutionary steps in this regard.

He criticized India over cancelation of New York talks and said that the neighbouring country was trying to isolate and weaken Pakistan and only a strong foreign policy can counter Indian designs.

“We decided that we would make our foreign office more interactive and started cultural diplomacy. We will also create a specialised foreign office, (and appoint) trained personnel.

The FM said that in first 100 days, Pakistan had 16 multilateral engagements.

PTI had unveiled its 100-day plan two months before the general elections on May 20.

The ambitious agenda- often mocked by party’s critics- included transformation in governance, revitalisation of economic growth and ensuring the country’s national security.
