Waseem had defeated Jether Olivia of the Phillippines to clinch the title, and is now ranked fourth the ranking of professional boxers in the world, and become the first boxer from Pakistan to win the title.
He was given a rapturous welcome among arrival at the Quetta airport by Director Sports Nazir Baloch and several other players.

This was evident by the fact that his arrival was not given consideration, despite the presence at the airport of several politicians including Balochistan Speaker Raheela Durrani, and ministers Hamid Khan Achakzai and Sardar Aslam Bizenjo.
Instead he was given a rousing welcome by several traffic police officials who showered rose petals on him. Later he was taken to his home by a jubiliant crowd of players.
