ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari owns apartment in Manhattan area of United States’ New York city and the property is his undeclared asset, ARY News reported.
Addressing media in the capital, the minister maintained that Asif Zardari has not declared this apartment in the nomination papers filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) so his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will file a disqualfication case against PPP co-chairman under Article 62/63 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
“We (the PTI) have directed MPA Khurram Sherzaman to file a petitions seeking his (Zardari’s) disqualification,” announced the minister.
He was of the view that Zardari may would have owned several such properties abroad but this one, the apartment in New York, is one place he is sure the former president owns.
About National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against Sharifs, the minister said that the nation will “soon hear good news” in the case, while adding that all these cases were filed in NAB during the PML-N’s own tenure but the institutions faced hindrances while investigating the cases.
Chaudhry was of the view that both Nawaz Sharif and Zardari have contested their last elections in 2018 and have no political future.
“So even if they form an alliance, they cannot harm anyone as zero plus zero remains zero,” remarked Chaudhry.
He concluded by saying that Prime Minister Imran Khan has a vision of corruption free Pakistan so none will be allowed to escape accountability process if they ever looted the country.
It is pertinent to note here that a document allegedly proving that the apartment in New York’s Manhattan area is owned by Asif Ali Zardari was also shown in ARY News’ Powerplay show on December 18, Tuesday.
