LAHORE: President Dr Arif Alvi has reiterated his call for transparent investigation into killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya, saying that the journalist’s family should get justice, ARY News reported on Saturday.
The President of Pakistan made these remarks while interacting with a group of journalists and civil society at Governor House in Lahore.
Terming the torture of Arshad Sharif ‘unfortunate’, President Alvi noted he had informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of a letter written by the slain journalist about the threats the latter was receiving.
He demanded a transparent investigation into Arhsad Sharif’s killing, saying that the journalist’s family should be satisfied by the probe and gets justice.
The President pointed all political parties have demanded early elections at some point in time and added that even Supreme Court had discussed the possibility of early polls to end the political deadlock.
He expressed hope that the government and the opposition would reach a conclusion soon. Arif Alvi also called for free and fair elections in the country to strengthen democracy.

Earlier in the day, an ARY News team led by anchorperson Iqrarul Hasan found 3 bullet shells from the crime scene where renowned journalist Arshad Sharif was murdered.
According to details, the ARY News investigation team has reached Magadi, where Arshad Sharif was murdered.
The team led by Iqrarul Hassan found bullet shells from the crime scene which they handed over to Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).
ARY News anchor and Sar-e-Aam host Iqarul Hasan also examined the site where Arshad Sharif was murdered on October 23.

During the visit, the team gathered some facts which are completely different from the information given by the Kenyan police.
Arshad Sharif’s assassination
The senior journalist and former ARY News anchor, was killed in Kenyan capital Nairobi on October 23 where he was living in self-exile.
Kenyan police first said that Arshad Sharif was killed in a case of “mistaken identity” but since the seasoned journalist’s post-mortem and his body’s transfer to his home country, several Kenyan news outlets have not only questioned the police’s conduct but have raised questions over the manner in which he was killed.
