Ali Raza Abidi announces to quit MQM-P, resign from NA seat

KARACHI: Mutahidda Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) parliamentarian Syed Ali Raza Abidi on Wednesday announced to quit the party and resign from his National Assembly seat soon after his party chief Farooq Sattar announced to form a political alliance with rival Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), ARY News reported.

Abidi made the announcement in a statement on micro-blogging site Twitter.

“Ladies n Gentlemen from the Holy land of Karbala, I announce to quit MQMP n resign from NA251 as this is not what I believed in n stood for,” he wrote.

The development came moments after MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar addressed a joint presser with PSP’s Mustafa Kamal at Karachi Press Club and announced to contest next general elections under “one banner, name, manifesto and electoral symbol.”

In December 2016, MQM-P had cancelled the basic membership of Ali Raza Abidi and expelled him from the party for breaching party policy and code of conduct but was later restored.
