With stars such as Anupam Kher, Rishi Kapoor and Raveena Tandon slamming Khan for his statement, he direly needed a supporter. And apparently, that’s what he got. Oscar-winning music composer A.R.Rahman identified with Aamir Khan and said that he went through something similar quite a few months back.
“I had gone through something similar a couple of months ago,” Rahman said.

He was referring to the incident when India’s influential Raza Academy had issued a fatwa against the singer for contributing in the Iranian film Muhammad: Messenger of God. The depiction of the Prophet (PBUH) in the movie had angered religious personalities in India and Rahman, who had contributed with his music in the movie, also faced criticism.

Rahman also spoke in a balanced manner as regards to the protests in India wherein artists and writers are returning their awards owing to the rising wave of intolerance in the country.
“Everything should be done classily and any kind of revolt should be classy. I think it is very poetic what people are doing rather than hitting each other,” Rahman said.

India has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons recently. The Dadri lynching, in which a Muslim man was killed by a Hindu mob, over rumours that he had slaughtered a cow, invited criticism from all quarters. Threats were issued to Pakistani artists Ghulam Ali, Atif Aslam, Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan by Shiv Sena. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan also spoke out against the bullish attitude of Shiv Sainiks.
