Eid is known for tasty food, particularly sweet offerings. Starlet Mahira Khan cooked her grandmother’s secret recipe, Savaiyon ka zarda and it actually turned out pretty good although she thought it didn’t taste quite like her dadi’s.
In a video for her portal, she is seen making Savaiyon ka Zarda, a recipe which has been passed down from generation to generation in her family. Mahira reminisced her childhood Eid memories and shared that it’s her grandmother’s traditional recipe who would make it on Eid for everyone and now her phuppo serves it on the occasion.
The Humsafar star called her phuppo to ask for the recipe, but was told to not name her as everyone would see her making it and she wasn’t sure of Mahira’s cooking skills. The actress understood the recipe and how to go about it the third time.
Vlogger Shaveer Jafry tasted the Savaiyon ka zarda and said it was scrumptious. Mahira, however, couldn’t believe it turned out good. She thought it was a bit overcooked.
Here’s the recipe for all those who might want to try it out:
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons ghee
- 5-6 cardamom
- 1 cup of milk
- 10 tablespoons sugar
- 1 packet savaiyaan
Instructions:
- Cook 3 tablespoons ghee in a hot pan and add cardamom.
- Cook 1 cup milk in a separate pan and add 10 tablespoons sugar.
- Break the savaiyaan into smaller pieces and add it into the pan with ghee.
- Now add the milk mixture to it and let it cook on low simmer for 20 minutes.
- Garnish the savaiyaan with crushed almonds and pistachio.
Mahira also recalled how her grandparents gave her and cousins pockets full of eidi that they didn’t have to go anywhere else. She said that her dadi would gift her an outfit with matching jewelry and khussas every Eid.
