Afghanistan reluctant to provide details of Pakistani inmates: FM Qureshi

ISLAMABAD: Expressing grief and agony over the Afghan government’s attitude, the Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Kabul is reluctant to provide the details of Pakistani inmates in their jails.

Addressing the National Assembly, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the government made several contacts with the Afghan officials over the prisoners’ issue but they did not give any satisfactory response.

He said that Afghanistan government refused to give counselor access to the Pakistani prisoners and added that they even rejected to provide the details of allegations on the inmates.

Whereas Pakistan provides full cooperation to the Afghan embassy in Islamabad, he concluded.

It is pertinent to mention here that the police and civil administration had been kept waiting at the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham, on November 14, to receive from Afghanistan the body of a police officer who was kidnapped from Islamabad

SP Tahir Khan Dawar, the head of Peshawar police’s rural circle, was kidnapped from G-10/4 area of the federal capital on Oct 26 and found dead in Afghanistan.
