CM Murad meets Chinese consul general after consulate attack

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Friday met the Chinese consul general soon after the attack over consulate in Karachi was foiled by the law enforcing agencies.

As per details, the meeting that took place shortly after three gunmen attempt to storm into the Chinese consulate in Clifton Block 4, an area of the metropolis, was attended by Inspector General (IG) Sindh, additional IG Karachi and director general Rangers.

The participants of the meeting were briefed about the attack and the response from law enforcing agencies to foil the terror-bid.

After getting information that the Chinese consulate is under attack, the chief minister had telephoned the Chinese consul general earlier in the day, and assured him that security measures were being taken. CM Shah had taken notice of the attack and directed the authorities concerned to ensure security of the staff present inside.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan had ordered immediate probe into the attack over Chinese consulate Karachi and termed the incident as ‘conspiracy’ against CPEC.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, Opposition Leader in National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif and others also had strongly denounced the incident of attack over Chinese consulate and termed the incident as a ‘cowardly’ act by the evil forces.

The attack

At least three terrorists were killed as security forces and police foiled the terror attack targeting the Chinese Consulate in Karachi.

Two policemen embraced martyrdom in exchange of fire with the three terrorists armed with suicide jackets. Two civilians were also killed in the attack.

Karachi Police Chief Amir Shaikh told media that the three attackers came in a car filled with explosives but failed to get inside the heavily fortified compound.

“They tried to get inside but the Rangers and police killed one of the terrorists,” Shaikh said.

A gun battle broke out with the two other attackers, but they were also killed, he added.

“There were three attackers and all three have been killed,” Shaikh said. “They could not even get in the compound. They tried to get into the visa section”.
