LAHORE: Caretaker Information Minister Syed Ali Zafar on Sunday said all legal requirements will be fulfilled regarding the arrest of former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on their return from London, ARY News reported.
“Law is equal for all and implementing courts verdicts is responsibility of the caretaker government,” he said while addressing ‘Meet The Press’ program at Lahore Press Club.
On Friday, the PML-N supreme leader was awarded 10 years in prison, while his daughter Maryam Nawaz and her spouse Capt. Safdar were handed seven years’ and one year’s prison term, respectively.
NAB has arrested Safdar and announced to arrest Nawaz and Maryam from airport on their return.
Ali Zafar also said the general elections would be held in time on July 25, despite the NAB court verdict against Sharif family.
To a query, he said the caretaker government would continue to share the code of conduct of Election Commission of Pakistan for elections with media.
He said that foreign media should also observe the transparent holding of upcoming general elections.
Zafar said that print media can easily meet the challenges of social media by publishing credible information and news.
On this occasion, the information minister also stressed to conserve and utilize irrigation water wisely to tackle the water crisis. He said that most of our water was wasted into sea every year.
He said the caretaker government will prepare a working paper with proposals for tackling the water issue and this plan will be presented to the incoming government.
He urged to allocate more funds in the budget for building dams.
