KARACHI: Refuting disgruntled Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Chaudhry Nisar’s claim, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the Karachi Operation was an outcome of the PML-N government’s decision, ARY News reported.
“Peace has returned to Karachi as a result of the Karachi Operation launched by our government and the sacrifices rendered by the Rangers personnel,” he said while talking to journalists in the megapolis.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday claimed that he launched the Karachi operation to restore law and order in the metropolis, despite facing stiff resistance from his party leadership.
The former interior ministry had said he played a crucial role in launching the Karachi operation along with the efforts of the interior ministry. “I launched the Karachi operation,” he said, adding those claiming otherwise should check the media reports and newspapers from July to September 2013.
Dwelling on the issues plaguing the port city, Shehbaz said since extortion and targeted killing had almost vanished from Karachi now it was time to provide potable water and employments to the citizens and clean all the garbage.

He vowed to transform Karachi into a city better than Lahore and bring Punjab-like developments in Sindh. He also pledged to resolve the three main issues of Karachi, water, public transport and solid waste management, in the next five-year constitutional term, if elected into power.
The former CM Punjab lambasted the Sindh government for not completing the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit system project despite Rs19 billion grant given by the federal government.
He said PML-N’s Miftah Ismail will contest from NA-244, while Salman Khan will contend from NA-247 in Karachi. He said the country could only proceed given that free and fair elections were held.
“Our performance should be compared at provincial and federal level in the last government,” he said.
Expressing concern over looming threat of water scarcity, he said the PML-N will build Bhasha dam along other small dams and there was no alternate for Bhasha dam, he underlined.
