WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump, in a statement on Tuesday said that “the Muslims add richness to the religious tapestry of American life.”
Trump who had called for “a total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the United States wished the American Muslim community observing Ramazan on Tuesday.
“With the rising of tonight’s moon, I send my greetings and best wishes to all Muslims observing Ramazan in the United States and around the world,” he said in the statement.
Trump’s statement issued to mark the start of the holy month of Ramazan goes heavily against his past comments on Muslims.
“During the holy month of Ramazan, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through fellowship and prayer. Many observe this holy time by fasting, performing acts of charity, reciting prayers, and reading the Holy Quran,” he continued.
Trump also stated that the Muslim community observing Ramazan strengthen the bond between communities as they help the needy and serves as examples of how to live a giving and life full of faith.
“Ramazan reminds us of the richness Muslims add to the religious tapestry of American life. In the United States, we are all blessed to live under a Constitution that fosters religious liberty and respects religious practice,” said Trump.
The Statement caused a mixed reaction as Trump, on the other hand, is still trying to impose a ban on people from Muslim countries particular nations like Iran, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, and Syria.
Wow ironic much? @realDonaldTrump putting out a statement on #ramadan. This is the same guy who has retweeted anti Muslim propaganda, implied needing to put Muslims on a watchlist, and is banning so many Muslims or folks from Muslim majority countries from being reunited. pic.twitter.com/LJeKaFnyyy

WH issues a very nice message for #Ramadan. Sadly, @realDonaldTrump‘s actions and rhetoric show a lack of respect for Muslims.
Wish he would listen to himself: “Ramadan reminds us of the richness Muslims add to the religious tapestry of American life.”https://t.co/YA2ZzCE1e8

Trump’s Ramadan statement is a complete joke.
Trump ended the White House celebration of Ramadan. Tillerson didn’t host a Ramadan reception last year. Also, this entire administration has been targeting Muslims over and over and over again.

Since Trump entered the 2016 presidential campaign he has been vocal about his anti-Muslim stance and has been facing a lot of criticism for his calls for a ban on them entering the United States of America.
