Interpol arrests alleged killer of Kohat’s Asma Rani in UAE

PESHAWAR: The main accused in the murder case of Kohat’s Asma Rani , Mujahidullah Afridi, has been arrested in United Arab Emirates (UAE), Interpol informed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police on Thursday.

Inspector General Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Police Salahudin Mehsud told ARY News that Mujahidullah has been arrested in Sharjah.

KP police approached Interpol through the Federal Investigation Agency for his arrest as he fled the country soon after the incident.

Interpol is a network of police forces from 190 countries all over the world. Interpol’s job is to help police in different countries work together to solve crimes that cross borders.

Asma Rani’s murder

Asma Rani, a third year student at Ayub Medical College, was shot dead in January  in her hometown Kohat after she allegedly rejected the marriage proposal of the accused.

Family members say Asma was returning home in a rickshaw with her sister-in-law when suspect Mujahid Afridi who was already present outside their house shot her dead.

Asma received three bullet wounds and was shifted to a hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to her wounds.

In a video posted on social media by her relatives, Asma Rani had blamed Mujahidullah for her murder.

Police had registered an FIR of the case on the complaint of the brother of the deceased, Muhammad Irfan, under Section 324 and 304 of Pakistan Penal Code.
