KARACHI: Ousted prime minister and PML-N president Nawaz Sharif on Thursday arrived here on a two-day visit to hold meetings with party leaders.

This is his first visit to Karachi after his disqualification at the hands of the Supreme Court on July 28, last year, in the Panama Papers case.

Sharif arrived in the city in a chartered plane from Lahore and landed at Karachi airport at around 12:30 pm.

The former prime minister left the airport in a motorcade without addressing party workers who had gathered at the old terminal of the airport to welcome him.

During his two-day stay here, the PML-N chief will attend a seminar at a hotel and also meet lawyers.

Sharif’s trip is a part of the ruling party’s election campaign to garner support and mould public opinion in its favour especially after his ouster from office and trial on corruption charges.

He is also expected to visit Peshawar this month to address public meetings.

In the past couple of weeks, the thrice-elected premier has addressed a number of public rallies in different parts of Punjab.
